Reggae singer Jah Cure is back on track and making more incredible reggae music! His life has taken a dramatic turnaround, as he was recently released from prison after the highly controversial case that changed his life. Just as his star was beginning to rise, Jah Cure found himself in the middle of a criminal case that ultimately landed him in jail for seven years. The facts surrounding the case were immediately questioned and Jah Cure has strongly proclaimed his innocence, in the face of legal prosecutors and those involved in the trial. Local papers and media covered the case for years. All focus shifted from his music career and upcoming projects to the horrible charges that were put before him.

Cure, whose real name is Siccaturie Alcock, would continue to work on music while incarcerated, and he released a stream of hit records from jail, songs that would become reggae classics. Many questioned the charges from the start, but as the case went on, it raised additional questions about Jamaica’s penal policy, police department, legal system and civil rights issues in regard to incarceration. Meanwhile, the longer Cure was behind bars, the bigger his legend grew.

Cure was released in 2007, and he wasted no time reclaiming his spot in reggae music. Now with his recent record releases, headline grabbing appearances at Reggae Sundance Festival, and a intense media buzz on his release date, Jah Cure can now continue to build his musical legacy.

“True Reflections…A New Beginning” is one of those “must have” albums for several reasons. The story behind the man and the music is compelling enough. Serving a jail sentence and continuing to write songs of love and hope, Cure’s latest album serves as a strong testament to his talents and will power alone. Without the controversy, the myths, and the gossip, Jah Cure is one of reggae music’s strongest voices.

You can’t help but be blown away by the healthfulness of his classic “Love You”, a beautiful guitar backed sonnet, or by the deceleration of “Dem Nah Build Great Man” which features Fantan Monjah. Cure puts his entire being into his songs, and it shows, as his vocals at time sound painful and raw, without ever missing a beat or losing tune. His voice is amazing, and this collection of his hits is a nice reminder of that.

The title track is another gem that has been rocking the reggae sets for a while. In fact, most of the songs present on this CD were floating around the internet, local mixtapes and loyal Jah Cure fan’s iPods for a while now. His reworking of Bob Marley hit “Sun Is Shining” is also present in the form of “Most High Cup Full”.

The good folks at VP Records made a wise decision in putting the compilation together. Your decision is easy, cop this album now!

PS..Word on the street is the new Jah Cure album is on the way, complete with new studio material!

The latest annual release of Reggae Gold continues the tradition of the Caribbean based label VP, with their yearly picks of the hottest in island grooves. VP Records have established a cornerstone in the house of reggae music, as their series of reggae compilations have gone on to become highly anticipated releases. For many up and coming reggae, dancehall and Caribbean music artists, getting picked to appear on a Reggae Gold album means you have officially made it. Reggae Gold is the number one reggae compilation for good reason and to appear in the line up is a highly sought after prize.

The theme to this years release is Caribbean treasures, as VP leans on the popularity of this years “Pirates of the Caribbean” release. With such a suitable launch pad, the compilation is set to explode onto the world with new grooves. This years RG features music from Jah Cure, Tessanne, Mavado, Morgan Heritage, Sean Paul and many more!

The CD also features a bonus DVD, complete with artist interviews, a guided tour through the nightlife of Kingston Jamica with tons of dancehall celebs and music dens featured, and the model casting call and photo shot for the gorgeous Reggae Gold album cover. Fellas, trust me, the CD is worth the money for that alone, as we get to follow the lovely cover girl through her grueling photo shoot! Visually, the extra DVD manages to insure it will be viewed instead of tossed like so many other DVD extras.

Reggae Gold 2007 is tight as ever, with it’s excellent choice of song sequencing giving the album a rounded feel. Reggae Gold start off with a bang, kicking off with Sean Paul’s club banger “Watch Them Roll” then sliding into Mim’s super hot Blackout remix of “This Is Why I’m Hot”, with Junior Reid and Cham. They take it to the yard with “Top Shotta Never Miss” & “Last Night” from Mavado, and “Bad From Me Born” by Munga.

Elephant Man brings the heat with “Bring It”, a little herb smuggler’s ditty, about waiting for his driver to bring the goods so he can “make profits increase”. When Buju Banton’s
Bobby Red” starts up, you will probably start to feel very safe with your purchase, as the heat just continues to build!

Jah Cure, fresh off his prison sentence, represents with “Sticky”, as the vibe starts to slowly change on the CD. Morgan Heritage provides their patented culture and vibes with “Brooklyn and Jamaica”, and Gyptian brings pure rasta vibes to the party with his hit “My Fadah Seh”. Lover rock meets R&B when Tessanne’s “Hide Away”, Pressure’s “Love and Affection”, and Alaine’s “Sacrifice” begin to play. Alaine turns in the masterful “Sacrifice” before Shaggy closes the CD with “More Woman”.

VP Records has done it again, as Reggae Gold 2007 proves to be full of precious treasures from the Carribbean! If that wasn’t enough, you can go to their website and enter the Reggae Gold 2007 Scavenger Hunt, for your chance to win $5,000! Hurry to website, grab a copy of the CD at your local music store!
